2. BORDER DISPUTES: d) OTHERS


    The treaties signed at the París peace conference had created new states and changed the borders of other disputes which involved the league in this period.
    The most important ones were:
  • In 1920 Poland took control of the Lithuanian capital Vilna. Lithuania appealed to the League and the League protested to Poland but the poles didn't full out.
  • In 1921 a dispute broke out between Germany and Poland over the upper Silesia region. The league over saw a peaceful plesbicite and divided the region between Germany and Poland. Both countries accepted the decision.
  • In 1921 the League ruled on a dispute between Finland and Sweeden over the Aaland island. Both sides were threatening to go to war but Sweeden accepted the League's ruling that the island should belong to Finland.
